The FT Retro Rocket is a combination of Buck Rogers, art deco, and our favorite acme rocket combined together to make something even the Wiley coyote would be proud to fly. The retrorocket is a passion project of Josh Bixler to create a jet that is only limited by your imagination. The goal was to bring the beautiful lines of the golden age of flight and combine them with unique experiences that anyone can enjoy whether you’re a beginner pilot, an aerobatic pilot, or you have a need for speed.

The Retro Rocket can be built as a prop driven lightweight pusher that is both maneuverable and capable of incredible aerobatics, especially when coupled with our FT thrust vector system. This gives the pilot the ability to have yaw control under power which enables flats spins and pinwheels at incredible RPMs.

If the classic looks and sound of a jet or what you’re passionate about, the FT Retro Rocket can easily accept our 70 mm EDF fan and can deliver amazing performance, efficiency, and speed on a 6S 2200mAH battery.  With this configuration, you can expect great speed and performance with an incredible sound due to the large side intakes that guide air directly to the motor.

Additional capabilities are unlocked when you couple the Retro Rocket with the FT Aura 5.  Simply by installing one of our Retro Rocket configuration files, you can easily unlock features like air brakes, thrust vectoring, and so much more.  The FT Aura 5 is also a great solution for beginner pilots, who wish to have features like launch assist and level assist. Both these features make taking off and flying enjoyable and approachable for even the newest pilots even on windy days.

The Retro Rocket also has great options like our unique landing gear system, which can easily be removed or installed with a simple click. With the wide wheelbase, the Retro Rocket is a joy to takeoff and land.

Our hope is that the FT Retro Rocket inspires all pilots to take to the skies with the wonder and imagination from the inner child that is still within all of us.

Still on the fence?  Take to the skies with the FT Retro Rocket through the Wings Simulator and push the limits and build skill right on your computer where repairs are just a reset away!  We are grateful to the wonderful team at Wings who have made it possible for FT Designs to be enjoyed and skills to be built through their amazing simulator!

Having built many master series planes, this build was a refreshing combination of typical Flite Fest and master series curves. I built two kits in two weeks and worked out the kinks I encountered the first time (putting the wrong wing skins together, etc) I was blown away by the ingenious way the fuselage parts are joined and really appreciate how Josh shot the build videos. I have an EDF version ready to fly on Zeee 6S 2200’s, and a thrust vectored prop version on a 4S 2200. They are going to be a hit at my club meeting and will fill the local skies with shenanigans!

A really fun build! Josh does such a fantastic job with the instructional videos, covers all the bases. Still waiting on EDF instructions so not complete yet. Tricking it out will be fun for sure! Buddy and I doing Coyote and Road Runner to fly together. Thanks Flite Test!
