WHAT ARE "MASTER SERIES" PLANES?

The F-16 Fighting Falcon—affectionately known as the Viper to pilots and crews—is one of the most legendary and enduring fighter jets in aviation history!

Originally developed by General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin) for the U.S. Air Force as a nimble air superiority day fighter, it quickly evolved into a highly capable all-weather multirole platform. With a flick of a switch, it seamlessly shifts between air-to-air dogfights and precision air-to-ground strikes—true versatility at its finest.

Since production kicked off in 1976, over 4,600 F-16s have been built, logging more than 19 million flight hours and over 400,000 combat sorties. Today, around 3,000 remain operational across the air forces of 25 nations, making it the most widely used fixed-wing combat aircraft in the world (with ongoing production of advanced Block 70/72 variants for export customers like Bahrain, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Taiwan, Morocco, and Jordan through at least 2026).

The official name is "Fighting Falcon," but the "Viper" nickname stuck thanks to its sleek, aggressive profile resembling a striking snake—plus a timely nod to the Colonial Vipers from the late-1970s Battlestar Galactica TV series, which aired right as the F-16 entered service. Pilots embraced it, and it endures as a symbol of the jet's speed, agility, and bite.

Armed with an internal M61 Vulcan cannon and 11 hardpoints for weapons, pods, and mission gear, the Viper excels in everything from air dominance to close air support and beyond.
