Flite Test Mighty Mini Scout Speed Build Electric Airplane Kit (609mm)
I built the Mighty Mini Scout as my first scratch/kit-built airplane. Building it using the plans, not the speed-build kit, I made some mistakes in the build process (such as gluing the wing together with less under-camber on one side than the other) that made it uncontrollable at first. I also found the servos pretty difficult to install in the small hole provided, but once again, I was a newbie at building. I later built a new wing and installed it without difficulty, but even so, the plane still did not fly particularly well. By this time, my skill level was progressed to the point that this plane no longer held my interest, so I scrapped its electronics to build an FT Long EZ (which flies better).
Since I didn't build the Scout using the Speed-build kit, and it was my first build, I can't confidently say my problems were due to the design, but either way, my experience was not very positive with this plane. I would recommend something more along the lines of the FT Simple Cub as a first FT plane: the bigger size makes it much more straight forward and relaxing to assemble.
Hope this helps!

Flite Test Mighty Mini Scout Speed Build Electric Airplane Kit (609mm)
I built this plane from the plans and it was a really easy build. This was my first scratch build by myself. It also flew really well (I crashed it over 30 times and it was still okay) and was really easy to fix. The controls were really easy to set up and you could easily fly through tight areas.

Flite Test Mighty Mini Scout Speed Build Electric Airplane Kit (609mm)
I built one of these from scratch and made a bunch of modifications to it. When I originally built it, I ran it on 3s with an 1806. I could get ~15 minute flights with a 450 mAh, or 25 minutes with an 850 mAh.

Eventually I upgraded it to a 2204, added ailerons, an old Naze flight controller and an all in one FPV camera. It easily became my favorite plane to fly. It was small, durable, fast, and reasonably aerobatic. The only downside was that with all that weight and power the flight times dropped to ~5 minutes on a 450 or ~10 on an 850.

Flying this little plane FPV with a flight controller was amazing. With those little digital servos I was able to tune it to be rock solid stable. I regularly flew it inverted 3 feet off the ground at full throttle just because I was able to do it with my mediocre skills. So I found it to be a good mini plane I could mold to do whatever I wanted it to do.

The only reason I hesitate to give it a full five stars is because as built from the kit, the wings are sort of fragile. My neighbor friend went through two of them and lost wings on fairly mild crashes. It looked like the culprit was the notch at the front of the wing for the power pod. I ignored that when I built mine and the wing lasted through dozens of much higher speed crashes.

Flite Test Mighty Mini Scout Speed Build Electric Airplane Kit (609mm)
I bought this kit as my first FT plane. Depite my lack of build skills, the video guided me well, and produced an excellent flying plane. I powered it with the A pack, a 2s 650mh battery and can get close to 20min flights. It will fly lazy circles or pull tight turns and loops. The stall speed is pretty low, and the glide slope makes the landings effortless. I hand off to my 6 and 9yr olds with the rates turned low, and they fly without (much) incident.

Flite Test Mighty Mini Scout Speed Build Electric Airplane Kit (609mm)
I have to say that this is a very impressive little airplane. Got my kit and assembly was quick and easy. Not to mention I do like the options of Electronics currently available and all you really need is a good radio. So far overall it is definitely meeting my expectations and definitely helping me to get back into the hobby. Considering I haven't flown in so long and thanks to the mini Scout I'm getting back into the swing on the sticks. Excellent for beginner and trainer. So overall I highly recommend this product.

Flite Test Mighty Mini Scout Speed Build Electric Airplane Kit (609mm)
I have three FT planes. All have been scratch built from plans that were downloaded. Of the three, this is my favorite so far. It flies really well and makes a great park flyer. Looking forward to building it's big brother soon. Also looking forward to buying a speed build kit to see how much different it is.
