The FT mustang is a four channel warbird trainer that will help you discover the flight characteristics of a warbird. However we wanted to eliminate the scale stall tendencies that warbirds often have. The wing mounted landing gear will enable you to learn landing tail-dragger techniques and perfect the classic “touch and go” on a calm evening. Although fast and nimble, this pony will slow down to a stall and not drop a wing tip. Our hope with this design is that it will give you the security to push the limits, fly a little lower, and discover the joys that a great scale warbird can provide.
NOTE: This includes the airframe only (no electronics).
This airframe is compatible with the swappable series developed by Josh Bixler.
NOTE: Will ship within 3 business days.
Fun to build almost ready to fly. Great kit. Snide on 30th Sep 2016
I have flown rc helicopters for a couple of years now but am new to fixed wing aircraft. I haven't begun assembly of this plane but am very impressed. I got the power pack with it and everything is well thought out. I could tell as soon as I opened the box and looked at everything that putting it together will be easy. the economy of this kit is also amazing. I'm very pleased and can't wait to get it put together and in the air. Unknown on 28th Jul 2016
I wanted to build a warbird but I'm not ready for an advanced model. This was easy and with the videos, it's hard to get wrong. If you're wondering if this is a worthwhile purchase, stop wondering and buy it. Jeff Johnson on 24th May 2016
This plane flys very easy and stable for a warbird. It is especially impressive in windy conditions,I have flown it in 10 -12mph winds, and in gusty winds it does jump around a little, but still very easy to control.Guys at my flying field hesitate to fly their store bought planes in such winds, and are surprized when i fly the mustang as well as my Ft3d without a bit of worry.
On one windy day i did land a little hard and tore out the right landing gear,as it is it only hot glued into foamboard with a plywood backer, but after re hotgluing it the gear held like it was first built.
I really enjoy flying this plane and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun flyer! Scott on 28th Mar 2016
Decided for my first build I didn't want to risk cutting out the kit myself. Ordered the kit and it assembled pretty easily. Got some pretty good flights out of it before I destroyed the nose and wing tips. Should have taken Josh's advice and cut a few out. I've built one from the plans since, the laser cut is so much better. Still new to the flying thing so once I get a little better I plan to order another one. They come out looking pretty sharp from the laser cut.
Another thing is they warn of a couple business days to get orders out, I'm on my third or fourth order and these guys get them out within a day, and the packing slip with who packed the order is pretty cool too.
Thanks guys, your videos and service are outstanding. Can't wait to build and fly a plane with my son. Bryan on 19th Mar 2016
This was my first time building any plane so it probably took me a lot longer than others to build. The kit was easy to assemble and all the parts were included with my order. The only problem i had was with the control horns, the holes were too small and need to be made a lilttle larger with a drill bit turned by hand. I broke one of them trying to use the screw to enlarge the hole.
I have everything assembled, tested all the servos and motors, which everything worked the first time. I will fly it this weekend to see how well i did.
The builidng of this model was so much fun, i plan on ordering some more planes to build.
As someone who is new to rc planes these scratch builds are awesome, they cost a lot less than others and if you tesr them up you can just build another one resuing your electronics.
The build video was great, however for noobs like me actually showing how the sevos go in on each side would be helpful. I watched over and over till i had it right in my head and committed to gluing it all down.

I have been flying foamies for the last 6 months. Started off with a Sport Cub S and a Bixler. Decided to go the Speed Build route for the next plane & picked the FT Mustang. The build experience was very engaging. I took my time to get the build right, control surfaces level etc. It was rewarding when I maidened the plane. Can fly docile or perform advanced manouvers. I used the BEEF package. Flitetest build video was great. I did however struggle with getting the control horns and push rods in place. I eventually ended up using the great flight set instead of the ones provided by flitetest, easier to install and tweak later. Ragging on 25th Jan 2016
Great kit, easy to assembly. Crashes real well, mainly my fault. 10/10 would crash again. Only down side was it didn't come with the landing gear wire.
I would definitely recommend and buy this kit again. Unknown on 15th Dec 2015
I spent a couple of days building and painting this plane. The build was extremely easy and everything fit like a glove. The only issue I had was keeping the back end of turtle deck from wanting to come off. I tried using double sided tape and hot glue. Neither seemed to work, so I used clear packing tape...not the best look, but it worked. My maiden flight was on Sunday, 30 Aug and I have say, this plan flies like it's on rails. This is the second plane that I own and flew. I started on the Eflite Apprentice and wanted to graduate to something a little more challenging without spending a lot of money. This plane was the ticket. Extremely fun and it wasn't a huge learning curve. Thanks Flite Test!!!!! Steve on 1st Sep 2015
Easy build, great looks with clean lines. Keigh Gendron on 10th Aug 2015
