The Bloody Baron is a four channel combat / sport plane. Coupled with our Power Pack B, the Bloody Baron can be flown as a 4 channel trainer. Use the Power Pack C and the Bloody Baron will climb vertically with ease and is capable of most basic aerobatics.
The Bloody Baron is our first community release! That means a Flite Test community member was inspired by experiencing flight enough to design their very own airplane.
Here is an excert from the designer, Dan Sponholz:
The FT Bloody Wonder was the plane I learned to fly on. It was not my first plane, but it was the first plane I had success with. For that reason it will always be special to me. I can't think of a better way to honor that than by trying to make an already great design even better. The Baron was inspired by the FT Bloody Wonder. I think you will agree that the end result is a combat plane that is stronger, yet simpler and faster to construct than it’s predecessor. I took some styling cues from the classic Das Ugly Stick, and the Fokker Dr.1. The Fokker Dr.1 was made famous by German WWI ace Baron Von Richthofen (a.k.a. the Red Baron). Hence the name, Bloody Baron.
This includes the airframe only (no electronics).
This airframe is compatible with the swappable series developed by Josh Bixler.
Bloody Baron Build
Please watch recent build videos before removing any paper from the foam! Some videos may use white foam board, which is no longer available and has now been replaced with water-resistant foam board.
Instead, I downloaded your plans bloody wonders. And I'm having a lot of fun with that I'm saving bloody Baron it for the big day. D Holland jr on 12th Mar 2017
Excellent design, I used the 1100kv motor and sent it up for the maiden flight. There are no cons to this plane. All fun, coming from sailplanes and trainers right to this with no problems at all. Used the 9x6 prop offered plenty of speed. I used the water resistant board a little tricky to paint but looks great. Also put the 2250 battery on the inside of the power pod. Thanks I will be building the spitfire next. Don on 28th Aug 2016
I have only unpacked and checked against downloaded pattern. I will start building today. I like the new water resistant board. Bob on 19th Aug 2016
Can't think of a single thing I would change. Very well designed, east to build, flies great. The new water resistant board is great to work with as well. John Bergsmith on 6th May 2016
I'm 73. I have built and crashed so many planes that I considered stopping flying and just stick to building. They were balsa and took time to build, and I hated damaging them.
Then I discovered Flitest speed built kits. The planes are tough and easy to build, and not expensive. I have a Bloody Baron and two Bloody Wonders, one scratch built. My skills have improved dramatically with these planes. I am even flying inverted. The planes are fast, but I am learning to deal with speed and acrobatics. No more slow flying 3 channel for me. These are fun! Gerald Buckley on 23rd Apr 2016
This was my first order from Flitetest. I ordered multiple items including the Bloody Baron.
Everything came nicely packaged and was shipped in a timely manner. The plane went together quickly and easily. Great job Dan and Keegan.
I would like to say a special thank you to Jim Bixler, I forgot a few things on the original order (small items, the shipping was more than the parts) he waved shipping on the second order and made sure everything arrived at the same time. OUSTANDING customer service! Well done! Roger Pyzik Jr on 19th Apr 2016
I bought this airplane for combat. Its very easy to build very easy to fly. The only down side to this aircraft is i had the battery eject mid flight. Made a small alteration to the plane to prevent that from happening again. I would buy this for just a fun plane to fly. Jeff Mccown on 3rd Apr 2016
Build wise it is very simple and quick.
I built mine last night and maidened it today. Vertical flight with barrel roles at the same time is quite easy. With the right power combo this thing is a rocket.
I kept my rates a bit high, but I like it that way.
Motor is a 2822/14 1450KV and a 8x4 prop with 25A ESC. I flew it with a 6x4 gemfan quad prop and it flies decent, just not as fast. Photohap on 28th Nov 2015
The SBK came very well packaged and in excellent condition. All the parts were cleanly cut and easy to remove. I am really looking forward to completing the build and flying the plane! Dwight on 23rd Oct 2015
The Bloody Baron is truly an awesome plane. Very easy to build and flies great!!! Smooth and flies like it is on rails. It is now one of my most favorite planes to fly. Rick Traxler on 16th Oct 2015
